This Privacy Policy describes how the Next Bus app (“we”, “the app”) handles information when you use our application. We respect your privacy and do not sell your personal data.
1. Information we collect and use
Location
When you grant permission, the app uses your device’s location to show nearby bus stops and distances. Location is used only on your device and for this feature. We do not upload your precise location to our servers. You can revoke location access at any time in your device Settings.
Data stored on your device
The app stores the following on your device:
- Bus stop and route data (e.g. stop names, route numbers) so the app works offline and loads quickly.
- Your favourite stations so you can quickly open them in the app.
- App preferences such as language (e.g. 中文 / English).
This data stays on your device unless you uninstall the app or clear its data.
Analytics and crash reports
We use Google Firebase to help improve the app:
- Firebase Analytics – We collect anonymous usage data (e.g. which screens are opened, general app events). This does not identify you personally.
- Firebase Crashlytics – If the app crashes or hits an error, we receive crash reports (including device type and stack traces) to fix bugs. These reports do not include your name or contact details.

2. What we do not do
- We do not require an account or login to use the app.
- We do not sell your data to third parties.
- We do not use your location or favourites for advertising or to identify you.
3. Data from third parties
Bus arrival times (ETAs) are fetched from KMB and Citybus (or their data sources). When the app requests ETAs, it sends only what is needed (e.g. stop ID, route) to retrieve the timetable. We do not send your location or identity to these providers for ETA requests.
4. Your choices
- You can turn off location access in device Settings; the rest of the app (search, favourites, route details) still works.
- You can remove favourite stations at any time in the app.
- Uninstalling the app removes all data stored on your device.
5. Children
The app is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
6. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will be revised when we do. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
